The Moon Only Shines in the Dark
The feeling of being trapped in your own emotions is difficult to put into words. It is one of those things that can only truly be understood when you have lived through it yourself.
Life does not always go the way we think it should. We make plans, set expectations, and imagine outcomes. Yet reality often chooses a different path. And when it does, we find ourselves carrying questions that seem to have no answers. This could have been better. That could have been different.
The weight of these thoughts can become an emotional burden. Not because we are weak, but because we care. We care about our dreams, our choices, our relationships, and the life we are trying to build.
Sometimes it feels as though we have left a part of ourselves behind somewhere along the journey. We tell ourselves we have become stronger, more confident, and wiser—and in many ways, we have. But growth is not always a straight line. There are days when we feel powerful, and there are days when old emotions pull us back.
The important thing is to remember that being trapped is not the same as being lost.
There are moments when I feel I am finally stepping out of that emotional cage. Moments when I can see things clearly and breathe freely. Then there are moments when I cannot. But I have learned that progress is not measured by never falling back. It is measured by finding the courage to move forward again.
Perhaps the significance of our existence is much like the moon. The moon does not shine despite the darkness—it shines because the darkness allows its light to be seen.
Maybe our struggles serve a similar purpose.
The difficult days teach us resilience. The disappointments teach us perspective. The moments that break us often reveal strengths we never knew we possessed.
So if you feel trapped today, remember this: you are not standing still. Every thought, every lesson, every attempt to move forward is shaping the person you are becoming. The darkness may surround you for a while, but it does not define you.
After all, the moon never stops being the moon, even when the sky is cloudy.
And neither do you.
